Dates
 17 May 2026
Location
Venice – From St. Mark’s Basin to the Church of San Nicolò al Lido
Description
Every year, Venice celebrates its deep bond with the sea through the historic Festa della Sensa, or Feast of the Ascension. This centuries-old tradition recalls the “Marriage of the Sea”, a symbolic ceremony representing the city’s intimate connection with the waters that have shaped its destiny. On 17 May 2026, a grand water parade of traditional rowing boats, led by the ornate Bucintoro vessel carrying city officials, will cross the Bacino di San Marco towards the Lido. Here, the mayor throws a golden ring into the lagoon, renewing Venice’s vow of love to the sea — a ritual both solemn and spectacular, filled with beauty, colour, and emotion.
Opening hours
The water parade starts around 10:00 from St. Mark’s Basin; duration may vary depending on conditions and official programme.
Ticket price
